John Betz, PA-C at Columbia Basin Health Association receives 2011 Outstanding Preceptor award from the Northwest Regional Primary Care Association.
This award, given for the first time in 2011, honors an individual within the NWRPCA membership who has reached a singular level of achievement in a particular area of expertise or service. Each year the area of selection will be determined by NWRPCA. The 2011 Summit Award was given to an outstanding preceptor. “John Betz's selection was unanimous, and he did have some good competition!” said Lynn Gerlach, Member Services Coordinator for the NWRPCA.
John Betz, PA-C, has been a Physician Assistant preceptor for over twenty years. He was a trailblazer for the PA profession, graduating from the first class of MEDEX Northwest. Most of John’s students come from the very same program that he graduated from – MEDEX. “John is a compassionate, skilled provider who is a true patient advocate. He fosters an environment of learning and allows students to grow and gain the knowledge they will need in order to reach their full potential during their rotation time with him,” said Greg Brandenburg, CEO for CBHA. “On the lighter side, John makes learning fun with his good sense of humor and great stories reflective of his many years of medical and life experiences. Because John is so invested in precepting students, he has educated his patients about the strong need to have students in the clinic.”
NWRPCA presented Betz with a traditional crystal jade award at the 2011 Spring Primary Care Conference in Seattle, Washington. The presenter this year was Dr. Lisa Watts, Director of Regional Medical Education at NWRPCA’s regional A. T. Still University campus in Portland, where training and rotations for osteopathic medical students are provided.
About Northwest Regional Primary Care Association
Northwest Regional Primary Care Association (NWRPCA) is a non-profit 501 (c) 3 membership association that works to ensure equal access, regardless of one’s financial or insurance status, to primary and preventive health care for all residents living in Alaska, Idaho, Oregon and Washington. To do this, NWRPCA leverages its regional power to support and advocate for community-based health centers at the national level, and to provide training and workforce development support, helping them to become model “professional homes” to their staff and board members.
