COLUMBIA BASIN HEALTH ASSOCIATION HAS BEEN AWARDED RECOGNITION BY THE NATIONAL COMMITTEE FOR QUALITY ASSURANCE DIABETES PHYSICIAN
RECOGNITION PROGRAM
Othello, WA – Columbia Basin Health Association (CBHA) has been awarded recognition through the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) Diabetes Physician Recognition Program (DPRP)! NCQA, in partnership with the American Diabetes Association, developed the Diabetes Physician Recognition Program to recognize physicians and health care facilities who have met standards demonstrating delivery of high-quality care to patients with diabetes.
NCQA accredits and certifies a wide range of health care organizations and manages the evolution of HEDIS®, the performance measurement tool used by more than 90 percent of the nation’s health plans. The Recognition Programs are built on evidence based, nationally recognized clinical standards of care. The DPRP Program has 10 measures which cover areas such as:
· HbA1c control
· Blood Pressure control
· LDL control
· Eye examinations
· Nephropathy Assessment
· Smoking status and cessation advice or treatment
Physicians and health care facilities who achieve DPRP Recognition show their peers, patients and others in the Diabetes community that they are part of an elite group that is nationally recognized for its skill in providing the highest-level of quality care to diabetic patients.
CBHA started its Diabetes Improvement Project in January 2008. The project involves tracking NCQA Diabetes Measures. “We have made significant progress since implementing this program in our clinics and now our medical staff is being recognized for the high quality of care they deliver,” said Dr. Hung Miu, Medical Director at CBHA. “It is even more of an honor given our rural setting, as well as the economic, cultural and language barriers that many of our patients face when accessing care.”
“Physicians who earn recognition through the Diabetes Physician Recognition Program have an established track record of providing excellent diabetes care,” said John Buse, M.D., PhD, President, Medicine & Science, American Diabetes Association. “The list of recognized doctors is the first place to look if you or a loved one has been diagnosed with diabetes.”
