GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Hygienist, located in the dental clinic, is a person licensed pursuant to RCW 18.29. Functions of dental hygiene, in addition to normal patient care duties expected of a hygienist are under general supervision unless noted. This position is offered at our new Connell Family Dental Clinic.
FUNCTIONAL DUTIES:

SPECIFIC DUTIES:
- Perform preliminary patient evaluations of intra/extra oral exams and record findings.
- Take, develop and mount radiographs.
- Monitor and record vital signs each visit
- Assess and complete health history every 6 months.
- Take study model impressions.
- Record accurate probing and monitor bi-annually.
- Place and remove matrixes
- Polish amalgams with high or slow speed hand piece.
- Pack and carve amalgams that have been prepared, under CLOSE supervision of the Dentist.
- Place temporary restorations.
- Replace a temporary crown.
- Place composite restorations.
- Remove overhangs.
- Apply pit and fissure sealants under CLOSE supervision of the Dentist.
- Provide deep scaling.
- Root planning as directed by the supervising Dentist.
- Utilize cavitron as needed.
- Polish coronally.
- Oral hygiene instruction.
- Fluoride treatments.
- Provide prevention treatment.
- Place and remove periodontal dressings.
- Remove sutures.
- Soft tissue curettage under CLOSE supervision of the Dentist.
- Perform all functions delegable to the dental assistant not addressed in this guideline.
- Schedule and confirm patients.
- Review medical emergency with staff bi-annually.
- Assist dental receptionist with recall system.
- Organize and participate in community dental health projects.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Ability to stand, walk, sit, use hands, fingers, reach with arms, stoop, kneel, crouch crawl, and talk frequently. Ability to climb and balance infrequently throughout the day. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
VISION REQUIREMENTS:
- Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less)
- Distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more)
- Color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors)
- Peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up and down or to the left and right while eyes are fixed on a given point)
- Depth perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships)
- Ability to adjust focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus)
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Graduate of an accredited Hygienist School.
- Licensed to practice in Washington State.
- Must be neat, clean and professional in appearance.
- Model of good dental hygiene.
