Mattawa

Mattawa, a Wanapum Indian word meaning "where is it", is a small town located in Grant County in sunny Eastern Washington.  The town of Mattawa came into existence in 1909.  Mattawa's surrounding area has gone through radical changes in the past 20 years.  Irrigation projects and the ongoing construction of the regional dams have had a large impact on the development of Mattawa.

The Saddle Mountains are close by and are covered with sagebrush and rock. The tallest, treeless mountain in the world is a short distance away, Rattlesnake Mountain at 3,560 feet.
