Firestarter Spotlight - Amanda Stephens

We are excited to announce our Firestarter, Amanda Stephens!

Amanda is often put in stressful situations that require her to think quickly and make good workplace decisions. She is always helping out in her department, being efficient in her work, and has exceeded workplace expectations.

This year Amanda helped organize our bake sale fundraiser to help raise funds for our annual Color Run. It was a huge success and was the fundraiser that raised the most funds this year!

Amanda is a great example of what our employees look like, and is always striving for excellence. We are happy to have her as part of our Accounting Department and CBHA Team!

Get to know more about Amanda:

When did you start at CBHA?

I started at CBHA in August of 2018.

What is your title and job duties?

My job title is Senior Accountant. My duties are comprised of a little bit of everything – from reconciling CBHA’s day-to-day banking transactions, to month-end and year-end, closing processes and even helping with various audits that we are required to go through. My job requires a lot of attention to detail and analytical focus; which is a lot of fun for me!

What do you like best about working for CBHA?

CBHA is a fun and engaging place to work. If you work hard, you will be appreciated for it.

How has CBHA helped you in your career development?

I’ve been able to obtain a couple of certifications at CBHA so far through the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) The Certified Healthcare Financial Professional and the Certified Specialist in Accounting & Finance. I am hoping to finish up the Certified Specialist in Managed Care by the end of this year.
What has been your favorite project at work so far?

It’s difficult to narrow down a specific project, but I’d say working on building various reports to help us better understand the meaning behind the numbers. It’s also been a lot of fun to help out with the Color Run and the QIT committee.

What motivates you to wake up and go to work?

Even though I am not a patient facing employee, I find a lot of fulfillment knowing that what I do in my job has an impact on the lives and overall wellbeing of our patients.

Tell us something about yourself that would surprise us.

I’m getting married soon… so, no more Amanda “Stephens”.

Another fun fact is that my great uncles were bank robbers in the early 1900’s. Don’t worry, they did the time for their crime. It is too bad that I was never able to meet them!

What would you do (for a career) if you weren’t doing this?

Without a doubt, I would be a real estate agent!

Favorite travel spot?

I am a homebody and would much rather have a “staycation”. But, my favorite place to be is the Oregon Coast. My mom was born and raised there, so having gone there to visit so many times in my life, it is always my home away from home. My fiancé and I would love to visit Norway and Sweden someday. He is part Norwegian, and my maternal grandfather was born in Sweden. But he and I are both major homebodies so, we’ll see if we ever get that far!

When you have 30 minutes of free-time outside of work, how do you pass the time?

I love working on projects around my house. I always have something going on that I am refinishing or decorating, or you can find me outside covered in dirt from working on our property. We also have crazy fur babies at home to wrestle with - three dogs and a cat.

Anyone you would like to thank or final words?

Thank you to Janine for the nomination and the very kind words. I’d also like to thank our CFO, Josh Bunch for taking a chance on me and bringing me into the organization!
