The holidays are finally here and we are so excited to start spreading
joy in our communities!
It has become a CBHA tradition for us to donate Thanksgiving Food Baskets
to families in need during the holidays.
We know that not every family is blessed to share a delicious thanksgiving
dinner, so we do our best to be able to bring some happiness into their
homes, and provide the ingredients to a perfect thanksgiving meal.
Some items that we include in the baskets are cereal, bread, cheese, soup
and of course all the thanksgiving fixings like a turkey, ham, stuffing,
corn and mashed potatoes and gravy! We were also able to add some warm
blankets to this year’s box, to help keep families warm this winter.
It all starts with us receiving referrals from our social workers, our
family services department and other staff.
After we have gathered family names and addresses, we begin purchasing
all of the food. Our staff is gracious enough to not only donate money,
but to donate their time and help put the food baskets together. We get
so many volunteers that it only takes us a few hours to arrange all the baskets.
Within two days our staff delivers over 200 baskets in Othello, Connell
and Mattawa.
As you can see it’s a long process in a short amount of time, but
from the time we learn the family’s name to the moment we ring their
doorbell, we are happy knowing that another family in our community will
be gathered around their table for Thanksgiving.
Seeing the look on their faces when we show up at their door with a large
box of food, is what makes all the hard work worth it.
We want to give a special thanks to Coordinated Care for donating funds
to provide for our families.
We are so grateful to be able to give 225 families some food and blankets
this Thanksgiving season. We can’t wait to do it all again next
year, and maybe reach a higher goal of 300 baskets!
