Firestarter Spotlight - David Valdez

Join us in congratulating David Valdez, Referrals Coordinator, on receiving the Firestarter Award!

David represents CBHA very well, by going out of his way not only to help his fellow co-workers but also the patients he comes in contact with. He always goes the extra mile to make sure that patients are seen in a timely manner especially when they need to be seen urgently.

David is very responsible when it comes to his duties. He know his job very well and proves it by his experience and always following up with either nurses, providers or patients. He is always polite and listens to our patients.

He always has a positive attitude when nurses have questions, need clarity or further assistance about a patient and always finds the answer.

We are so grateful to have him on our team!

When did you start at CBHA?

I started on Feb 10, 2004.

What is your title and job duties?

I am a Referrals Coordinator. We process out Patient Specialty referrals for all CBHA Providers from all three clinics. We make it easy for our patients to obtain appointments with specialist offices when they get referred out for surgeries/and or procedures.

What do you like best about working for CBHA?

I like all the wonderful opportunities CBHA provides for us to be part of community events, like the 5K Color Run, Othello Fair, Holiday Parade floats, and Community Day events.

How has CBHA helped you in your career development?

CBHA has helped me greatly by providing me with experience and knowledge though out these years in healthcare. They have paved the road for people like me to be successful and have opportunities to work in this industry.

What has been your favorite project at work so far?

One of my favorite projects at work was volunteering and participating in the Run, Hide, Fight Active shooter drill training alongside the Othello Police Department and Adams Country Sheriff Officers. Our staff was trained on what to do to keep us and our patients safe incase these emergencies ever happen.

What motivates you to wake up and go to work?

My family is my motivation.

Tell us something about yourself that would surprise us.

I love to listen to oldies music, such as Johnny Cash, Richie Valens, Buddy Holly, and the King Elvis Presley.

What would you do (for a career) if you weren’t doing this?

If I wasn’t doing this I would be driving a crane or bull dozer, or something with a big engine!

Favorite travel spot?

My favorite travel spot is anywhere that has a golf course, and a fishing lake nearby.

When you have 30 minutes of free-time outside of work, how do you pass the time?

Playing catch with my son, whether it’s a baseball or football, it’s a great way to spend time together.

Anyone you would like to thank or final words?

I would like to thank the nursing team for always being there for us when our days can get super busy. The executive and leadership team for always giving words of encouragement. My supervisor for her continued support and understanding, and the amazing Referrals Team for always having some form of candy, cookie, or sweet snack nearby, to give us that extra sugar rush we need to finish off the day!
